South Carolina Society Hall - c.1737
Originally built for a fraternal society of French Huguenot businessmen and artisans as the "Two-Bit Club," which used their weekly dues to assist indigent families. today this gracious building is a popular site for social events, due to the large meeting room and the adjoining ballroom. In 1820, the portico projecting over the Meeting Street sidewalk, as well as the stairs and iron railing were added. At the base of these stairs, is the lamp and standard from which we drew our inspiration for the Society Hall design.
First Scots Presbyterian Church
The fifth oldest ecclesiastical building in the city, it has a pedimented portico which is flanked by twin, guilted towers and iron work finials. The church yard and its surroundings are enclosed with a wrought iron double gate and railing which are original to the church. It is from this ironwork, that surround this handsome building, believed to be designed by Scottish master builders, that we drew our inspiration for this simple but elegant design which is the First Scots Collection.
